| 17-18th century, Japan had relationship with Holland. (Only Holland in European countries) A lot of new things came from Holland to Japan with new words. Still now, we use many Dutch words in Japanese language. But some words were changed their meanings. For example, Japanese "Otenba" came from Dutch "Ontembaar". However the meaning was changed a little. "Ontembaar" means "untamable" in English but "Otenba" is "tomboy". |  |
